About
I have been a movement professional for 9 years, with certifications in strength and conditioning as well as kettlebell skills. My early knowledge focused on functional movement patterns, biomechanics and strength building, but I knew that only took the client experience so far. It felt like falling short. Seeing increasing numbers of clients with pain, acute and chronic, as well as stress (COVID-19 among many other life events!) made clear that an approach centering the entire lived experience was crucial in improving pain and movement dysfunction. Enter the world of applied neurology and nervous system training.
Throughout this past year of applied neurology and nervous system education, I have begun to understand that training in these systems goes far beyond simple movement dysfunction. Learning to work with the nervous system by way of the brain’s inputs unlocks so much potential for emotional regulation and stress management, two huge players in the world of pain. These concepts allow clients to become preventative as opposed to reactionary to their lived experience. My passion is sharing this knowledge not just in the strength training space, but for any person who is interested in understanding how to better regulate the nervous system and positively change their experience in the physical and emotional realm.
My Coaching Method
-
Human- Centered
A human-first approach allows me to take clients' past and present experiences (including successes, traumas, and anything in between) into consideration during every session. I focus on trauma-sensitive work and the ability to tend to the nervous system while encouraging self-leadership as a vital component to care.
-
Foundational
Working through foundational patterns which helped us develop into upright bipedal movers —transitioning from rolling to crawling to walking — has been a hugely successful method for enriching the training experience and building a strong foundation on which to build strength.
-
Collaborative
Understanding the dynamic between client and coach as more of a two way street, where we are both the teacher and student at different times during the training journey, is a crucial piece of my work. The body truly does know best and that is a major philosophy of my coaching.
